Contrast Rivalry Paradigm Reveals Suppression of Monocular Input in Keratoconus

چکیده
Purpose: Keratoconus results in image quality loss one or both eyes due to increased corneal distortion. This study quantified the depth of monocular suppression keratoconus this using a binocular contrast rivalry paradigm. Methods: Contrast was induced 50 keratoconic cases (11–31 years) and 12 age-matched controls by dichoptically viewing orthogonal Gabor patches 5 cycles per degree (cpd) 1.5 cpd spatial frequency for 120 seconds with their best-corrected spectacles rigid gas permeable (RGP) contact lenses. The dwell time on each eye's percept determined at baseline (100% bilaterally) varying levels (80–2.5%) stronger eye dominant controls. reduction needed balance times considered measure depth. Results: At stimuli spectacle correction, switches were less frequent biased toward cases, all relative (P < 0.001). point (20.51% [10.7–61%]) lower than (99.80% [98.6–100%]; P 0.001) strongly associated overall interocular difference disease severity (r = 0.83, reduced (70.8% [21.7–94%]), stimulus lenses (80.1% [49.5–91.7%]), 0.001). Conclusions: lesser dominates keratoconus. poorer depends extent bilateral severity, optical correction modality, target frequency.

Preserved gain control for luminance contrast during binocular rivalry suppression
Binocular rivalry elevates contrast increment thresholds for the detection of a transient stimulus presented to the suppressed eye, while thresholds measured during dominance are identical to those during monocular viewing (e.g. [Wales, R., & Fox, R. (1970). Increment detection thresholds during binocular rivalry suppression. Perception and Psychophysics, 8, 90-94]). It is well established that...
متن کاملMonocular rivalry exhibits three hallmarks of binocular rivalry
Binocular rivalry occurs when different images are presented one to each eye: the images are visible only alternately. Monocular rivalry occurs when different images are presented both to the same eye: the clarity of the images fluctuates alternately. Could both sorts of rivalry reflect the operation of a general visual mechanism for dealing with perceptual ambiguity? We report four experiments...
متن کاملTraining of binocular rivalry suppression suggests stimulus-specific plasticity in monocular and binocular visual areas
The plasticity of the human brain, as shown in perceptual learning, is generally reflected by improved task performance after training. Here, we show that perceptual suppression can be increased through training. In the first experiment, binocular rivalry suppression of a specific orientation was trained, leading to a relative reduction in sensitivity to the trained orientation. In a second exp...

15 صفحه اولMonocular texture segmentation and proto-rivalry
When the right eye's target is the left eye's distracter and vice versa, orientation-defined search is impossible unless, as we show here, the elements are close together. More than 1s was required to find inverse-cyclopean texture boundaries when elements were arranged on a 16 x 16 grid. Less than 250 ms was required for a 24 x 24 grid covering the same area. The conventional view is that bino...
